Stop Anti-Valentine’s Day Hate Now!
Okay so Feb 14 is the day we get all mushy and romantic with our significant others or those who we want to be our significant others. I certainly don’t have a problem with Valentine’s Day. After all it’s only one day.
Yet some are so cynical and cerebral that they only see Valentine’s Day as a consumer feast by big and small business. But how is it so different from any other Holiday we celibrate in the USA. Christmas, Halloween, Thanksgiving, Mother’s Day, Father’s Day on and on and on.
The haters of Valentine’s Day are primarily jealous because they are single – okay maybe they aren’t jealous but there has to be some form of resentment! Apparently this is very serious and some have gone to the extreme of putting up anti valetines day websites and blogs to express their resentment. One blogger made some anti-valentines day cupcakes.
Big business has even jumped on the bandwagon and carve out a new niche market to cater to the haters. Check out Blue Moutains anti valentines day e-cards. What other holiday gets so much flack? One site even bosted of throwing a anti-valentines day party. An anti love celebration.
But it’s not just the single people who are coming out against Valentine’s Day. Nationally syndicated columnist and CNN Contributor Roland Martin just wrote an op-ed “Commentary: Don’t be my Valentine” listing his displeasure with Valentine’s Day. Although happily married Martin still sees Feb 14 not as a day to celebrate love and romance but a day retailers have encourgaed and just so we can spend more money between Christmas and Easter.
There might be some truth to that. But everything is comercialized in our culture and we have to spend money on something. Have you ever just said Happy brithday to your mother, or father without giving them at least a birthday card. You don’t dear go empty handed. It’s the way it is!
Do you agree!
