Irises are flowering plants with jazzy flowers and their name derives from the Greek word for a rainbow, referring to the wide diversity of flower colors that exist among the many species.
The iris has come to symbol more than just a colorful flower but also the symbol for a Country, a Football team and a State. For instance, the Iris been associated with France as Louis VII adopted it as a symbol in the 12th Century, it is the state flower of Tennessee, and it is one of the symbols adopted by the sorority, Kappa Kappa Gamma.
More modern exploits of the iris can been seen in the Quebec national flag, as well as the logo of the New Orleans Saints football team, and on the flag of Saint Louis, Missouri.
