Iris gets its name from the Greek word rainbow becuase of it's wide variety of colors found among the many species. Iris is a genus of between 200–300 species of flowering plants. The are most recognized by there large pertruding curving petals. Yellow Irises have been widely used in water purification. The roots are usually planted in a substrate (e.g. lava-stone) in a reedbed-setup. The roots then improve water quality by consuming nutrient pollutants, such as from agricultural runoff.
